Tomato survey report

Saw the Localcircles tomato price survey report in Hindustan newspaper this morning.

The report say almost everyone is paying over 80 rs a kg and some even paying 150+

Can everyone who is paying under 100/kg for tomato please share where u getting it from?

Also Govt move to make some
Subsidised tomatoes available in Delhi NCR is such a bad idea. Seems like babus and their friends in Delhi may get to buy subsidised tomatoes for a few weeks.

Funny they are doing this only in Delhi NCR. more

Is it really essential to consume tomatoes at this price or we can do without this specific veg for a couple of weeks ! Just two days back I saw a report showing white worms coming out of a ripen tomato saying that such works are found in other tomatoes as well. Hence, it is better to keep ourselves off of tomatoes for a few weeks. more
Last year some Farmers could not even get break even costing as their produce of tomatoes did not fetch even Re.1/- so rather than bearing cost of transportation which would eat into their costing, the farmers in Gujarat & Karnataka threw their tomatoes on land and in river. So what exactly is the Cold Storage Chain doing then? Sheer negligence of the Government of India and their apathy towards Farmers is the cause. Not just tomatoes, next year the price of Rice/Paddy will also shoot up as also pulses. more
This year history has been created. Tomatoes being sold @ Rs.200.00 pkg much costlier than apple. Suden heavy rains Himachal disrupted supplies in Northern India. 15 days back its price was around Rs.25.00 ( good quality desi tomato) Both farmers and consumers are at a loss. more
We get tomatoes from Weekly Veg market or from the Mother Dairy outlet. AT both paces the price of tomatoes is Rs. 100 or lesser per kg. more
Tomatoes and every other vegetable will get dearer as the number of cultivators and land cultivated will progressively decline - we must be prepared for a change in the proportion of income spent on different necessities and needs and desirables of life. The perishables are perishing and in peril along with those who grow them. At the moment only the aged villagers are farming - their progeny is in urban based occupations. WIth the demise of these aged farmers - because demise is inevitable...where would our food security stand?   they have been taken for granted post independence - it was only the short period since independence. The present 58 percent depending on agriculture will fast decline. Then consumer trauma will be real. If the farmer is spoken of in the parliament - it is about subsidies - procurement pricing - and farmer suicides. There is a whole stroy beyond this. That needs to be addressed and resolved. Until then - cry housewives - cry - I too am a women and a househive and pensioner at that. Lets weeeep together.geeta On Wednesday, 12 July, 2023 at 06:25:33 pm IST, Sneha Goyal wrote: more
