Passport applicants will no longer be required to go to police stations for verification in Gujarat. Police officers will visit the home of applicants only if there are particular grounds to suspect fraudulent.

You all should demand the same on your state. Do some noise and it will happen faster more

In Telugu states for many years no need to visit police station for verification. As per requirement police are deputed to visit our home address. more
Notorious people get multiple PPs even with police verification. This forces govt to allow police verification. Many people commit heinous crimes and get PP under TATKAL and leave the country. In any case, renewal of PPs, especially sr citizens, should be exempted from this hassle. more

No need to visit home if it is for renewal. We need to trust our people. For senior citizens and income tax payers even for first time police verification should be dispensed with. Information should be there in public domain as to how many passports were NOT Issued after police verification as police found something suspicious. My guess is that it will almost be negligible. more
In Delhi, the police verification is done by a visiting official from the local police station from the very beginning itself. We don't have to visit the police station to get ourselves verified. I thought the procedure is same across the nation. more
