Millets used to cost 40Rs/kg 2-3 years ago, now they cost 180-200Rs/kg.

Similarly, Makhana used to cost like 200-250Rs/kg a few years back, now these cost 1000Rs/kg.

Easiest way to increase the price of a product is to tag it as a 'super food'.

Even 2 decades back Millets were considered a poor mans grain. Particularly Ragi and Pearl millet(also known as bulrush millet).Though the price of Ragi and pearmillet hasnot gone beyong the price of Rice or Wheat, the price of other millets have gone higher than rice of Wheat. more  
ITS All a mater of Demand & Supply. If the production of Millets is increased over the Other food grains the Prices will come Down. May be Millets are more likely to be grown well in India Climate more  
After Launching Millets in G 20 meeting by PM , the peoples started eating now instead of junk food. So that It becomes costlier. more
