Cannot myself say whether such polls are from the government, but the results match with governmental decision on lockdown. What answers do we seek from a government that herself polling citizens to decide what should be done with the lockdown. Obviously, being agreeable, rather than finding solution, would be the motive, so that those in power may always put the onus on citizens for having polled one way or another. more
Lockdown extended by a week. No planning or long term view that would necessitate planning. Just playing along by seeing what is most popular, or what orders other states can get by with, e.g. West Bengal or Uttar Pradesh and simply applying that for Delhi. Never mind the case load, or uniqueness of Delhi, insofar as the wealth creation, industry, livelihood generation, population demographics and psychographics, to name just some representative parameters. Lockdown, seems like being the default option rather than a calibrated response, that imposing one during the initial phases of the pandemic, even the second wave this year, such a containment measure, was. more
Another facet of such polls, is that they have a confirmation bias, which means that the decision already taken, but polling just for confirming that authorities took the right decision. Stated another way, conclude first and then verifying reasoning can follow. Public poll made government's job easy, insofar as people mostly voted with what government found easiest doing, ordering lockdown. Lockdown may have had positive aspects, of course, as any containment will, but one should also know that more alternatives exist, one must just make efforts to look for them rather than just conveniently using the default option of lockdown. more
Oh but they very much do. The polls are taken to get the general public view. These are then put to the expert committee and then a directive is given. Polls simply doesnt mean that the Govt is blind and just follows the general wave. more
Agreed, for example if the general public view was for opening up, the expert committee may still, knowing their preparation in dealing with pandemic, following conservativism principles, knowing that voters will see this as being a responsible, likely would enforce lockdown. more
